[Editorial] Oscar Nominations 2026: Where to stream all the horror picks
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards are here, and it’s a huge year for horror. The genre has become renowned for being overlooked at the world’s biggest award ceremonies (Toni Collette, we will never forgive them for the Hereditary (2018) snub), but recent years have seen a change in the tide. Nosferatu, The Substance, and Alien Romulus were all up for Oscars in 2025, heralding several cries of “Is horror finally being taken seriously by the awards voters?”
And 2026 appears to be no different, with several genre titles landing nominations, including one breakout 2025 hit smashing records. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the awards ceremony will take place on 15 March, broadcast across the world for us all to tune in. In the meantime, we’re sure many readers will be catching up on the titles they’ve not yet seen, or rewatching those they have to jog their memories.
Ahead of the Academy Awards ceremony, Ghouls has rounded up where you can stream all of the 2025 horror releases in the UK and the US from the comfort of your own home.
Sinners
Everyone say it with me: Sinners sweep, let’s go! Ryan Coogler’s genre debut has made history at the Oscars this year, scooping a whopping 16 nominations, making it the most nominated film of all time at the awards. Among its potential accolades this year are the much-coveted Best Picture, as well as Coogler being nominated for directing, producing, and writing Sinners. Lead star Michael B Jordan is also up for best actor, while castmates Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo scored nods.
For those that may need reminding, or haven’t seen the hotly tipped vampire flick, Sinners tells the story of Smoke and Stack (both played by Jordan), who have moved from the bright lights of Chicago back home to Clarksdale, Mississippi, to open their own juke joint. After gathering the troops and banding together, they pull off an impressive opening night, but things go awry when a trio of travelling musicians arrive and demand entry - by any means necessary.
In the UK, Sinners can be streamed on NOW TV and Sky Go. In the US, Sinners can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max.
Frankenstein
In joint third place with the most Oscar nominations for 2026 is Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, which picked up an impressive nine nods alongside Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value. It joins Sinners in both the Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor categories, where Jacob Elordi nabbed a nomination as the titular scientist’s creation. Other awards it is up for include Original Score, Costume Design, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Production Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Sound. Frankenstein isn’t the first time horror maestro Del Toro has been nominated at the ceremony, having won golden statuettes for his work on The Shape of Water (2017) and Pinocchio (2022).
His adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, which took the director an estimated 20 to 30 years to make, follows Dr Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), described as “brilliant but egotistical”, who fashions body parts from criminals and soldiers killed in the ongoing Crimean War into a body to reanimate. The ensemble cast also includes Mia Goth in dual roles as Lady Elizabeth Harlander and Baroness Claire Frankenstein, as well as Ralph Ineson, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, Lars Mikkelsen, Burn Gorman, and more.
In the UK and US, Frankenstein can be streamed on Netflix.
The Ugly Stepsister
It may seem surprising that an indie darling like The Ugly Stepsister would be nominated for an Oscar, but if you’ve already seen the visceral and poignant body horror film, you may not be shocked. Created by Emilie Blichfeldt in her directorial debut, The Ugly Stepsister is in the running for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, going up against both Sinners and Frankenstein.
Adapted from the classic folktale of Cinderella, The Ugly Stepsister follows Elvira (Lea Myren), an average teenage girl who becomes obsessed with winning the heart of Prince Julian (Isac Calmroth). She will stop at nothing in her pursuit of love, even subjecting herself to excruciating cosmetic procedures to be deemed more attractive by conventional standards. She is left devastated when it appears her beautiful stepsister Agnes (Thea Sofie Loch Naess) is about to live the life she craves, pushing Elvira to extreme measures.
In the UK, The Ugly Stepsister can be streamed on Shudder. In the US, The Ugly Stepsister can be streamed on Shudder, Hulu, AMC+, and Philo.
Weapons
Barbarian director Zach Cregger introduced us to a new horror icon last year in the form of maniacal antagonist Gladys, so it seems fitting that the role’s powerhouse actor, Amy Madigan, is up for Best Supporting Actress alongside Sinners’ Mosaku. It is the first nomination Madigan has received in almost 40 years, first receiving a nod for her role in Twice in a Lifetime (1986).
The premise of Weapons is simple, yet how it plays out is one of the most twisty and explosive experiences. One night, at 2:17am, 17 children from one elementary school class got up from their beds, opened their front doors, and vanished into the darkness. Only one was left behind, and suspicion was placed squarely on their teacher, Justine Gandy (Julia Garner). But something far more sinister is at the centre of the disappearances that threatens everyone in the small town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania.
In the UK, Weapons is available to rent on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, the Sky Store, and Rakuten TV. In the US, Weapons is available to stream on HBO Max.
Bugonia
Yorgos Lanthimos’ sci-fi black comedy Bugonia has also caused a stir at this year’s Oscars, racking up four nominations, including Best Picture with Sinners and Frankenstein. It also joins both films in Best Original Score, and will face off against Frankenstein for Best Adapted Screenplay. Emma Stone is also up for Best Actress, an award she has won twice before - for La La Land (2016) and Lanthimos’ previous flick, Poor Things (2023).
In Bugonia, conspiracy theorists Teddy Gatz (Jesse Plemons) and his cousin Don (Aidan Delbis) kidnap pharmaceutical company CEO Michelle Fuller (Stone), believing her to be an alien planning to eradicate humankind. Teddy interrogates Michelle in a bizarre hostage situation, and as the narrative goes on, it begins to appear like Teddy’s claims may not be as outlandish as they first appeared.
In the UK, Bugonia is available to rent via Amazon Prime Video and Rakuten TV. In the US, Bugonia is available to stream via Peacock Premium and Peacock.
If I Had Legs I’d Kick You
Okay, we’re bending the limits of what many would consider horror here, but arguably, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You encapsulates the terrors of parenthood like few other films can, and Insidious (2010) and 28 Weeks Later (2007) alum Rose Byrne is up for Best Actress for her performance in the film. It’s a first-time Oscar nomination for Byrne, and one that will see her face off against Bugonia’s leading lady, Stone.
Directed by Mary Bronstein, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You focuses on Linda (Byrne), a therapist on the brink of a breakdown whose life unravels when her apartment roof caves in and floods her home, forcing her and her chronically ill daughter to live in a motel. Forced into a seedy new place to live and reconciling with an absent husband, her own difficult therapist (Conan O’Brien), and a plethora of deadlines tightening around her, Linda’s mental state crumbles.
In the UK, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is not available to stream or rent, but it is currently in cinemas. In the US, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is available to rent via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, Flix Fling, and Plex.
